Falling oil price: Shell to sack 10,000 workers

Ibori has not been released from UK prison – Oghara Clan Sec-Gen says

The Secretary-General of the Oghara Clan Union in the UK, Charles Abutoh has denied media reports that former Delta State Governor, James Ibori who is serving a jail term in the UK for government evasion and defilement, was discharged from jail . Oghara is Ibori's town in Delta state.

Identifying with DailyTrust, Abutoh said that the former governor was all the while serving his term at the Long Lartin Prison in Worcestershire, England and may be discharged after his  reallocation trial planned for June this year has been finished

"On the off chance that you detain somebody for taking, you can't release them without letting you know what you say they stole. That is the quintessence of the seizure trial. Once the trial is closed and he can settle it, he will be discharged. They know Ibori offers papers, so a few individuals simply take a seat and compose whatever they like. I went to him in jail around three weeks back and talk with him each other. Things are still as they seem to be, and everything is on course".

Ibori has been in a UK jail since April 2012 for taking and IRS evasion, among different offenses.

Photo: Shi’ites demand release of leader

Members of the Islamic movement in Nigeria (IMN) Wednesday embarked on another peaceful demonstration in Kaduna metropolis demanding unconditional release of their leader, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky who has been detained for the past 50 days by security agents.

The protesters who are mostly student came under auspices of Academic Forum of the movement said; “it is pathetic that contrary to Nigerian constitution that said nobody can be detained more than 24 hours without being charged to the court, sheik El-Zakzaky has been in custody for 50days which is a violation of his constitutional right.”

The leader of the protest Mikaeel Yusuf said, following the military assault on the residents of sheik El-Zakzaky and two of their centers 730 of their members have been missing while 220 are in Kaduna prison, among them women and students.

“We must accept the fact that students lay the foundation stone of the future of all societies because the youthful stage of a student is a prominent stage compare to all stages of life. It is a stage where students learn life issues and how to tackle challenges ahead and how to build a beautiful life. This is a stage where the growth and development of every Nation is determined.

“It is now six weeks on, since when the Nigerian Army launched a coordinated crackdown massacre on members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria under the guardianship of his eminence Allamah Shaikh Ibraheem Zakzaky. Tens of students were brutally killed by the Nigerian Army and hundreds more are still under illegal detentions.

“This is a display of inhumane and gross violation of fundamental human rights against fellow Nigerian Citizens. Based on the list that the Islamic Movement compiled, 750 men and women are either in military detentions or murdered.



“Amongst them are dozens of students, excluding the 220 others that are presently in Kaduna, some Prison languishing with gun shots injuries without medical treatment. Children killed in 2014 by the same Army also blocked way? Does the house of Shaikh Zakzaky that was set on fire with people inside and later demolished blocked way?

“What about killing of finally, we are calling for the immediate release of Allamah Shaikh Ibraheem Zakzaky and his wife as well as all others in detention. The perpetrators of these demonic acts be brought to book for the crime against humanity we demand Justice right now,” he said.

They however protested from Katsina Roundabout to Kano Road junction on Ahmadu Bello Way, before turning to Kano Road down to Tudun Wada. The streets were shut for the period of the protest.

James Ibori reportedly re-arrested in UK

Former Delta State governor, James Ibori, who was serving his jail terms in London and has has just been released from a London prison, has reportedly been rearrested.
Ibori was released on January 22, 2016, after completing his jail term at Her Majesty’s Prison in Bedford, United Kingdom.
According to PM News, the ex-governor was re-arrested over fresh charges bordering on the confiscation of his assets, which were estimated at about 250million pounds. It was reported that hearing would commence on the case in June.

The 57-year-old politician had been jailed for using UK financial institutions to launder hundreds of millions of pound sterling believed to have been stolen from Delta State while he served as governor.He was first arrested on May 13, 2010 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, before he was later jailed.

Atiku named in N1.162bn scam

A former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has been linked as one the beneficiaries of the N1.162 billion state fund allegedly looted by a former governor of Plateau State, Chief Joshua Dariye.
Dariye was said to have paid N100 million into the account of a company, Marine Float Nigeria Limited, owned by Atiku Abubakar.
This was contain on Tuesday by a witness, Musa Sunday, at the resumed hearing of the suit brought against the former governor by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Court allegedly orders PDP chieftain’s arrest

A court has allegedly ordered the arrest of the former secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Tope Aluko.
The claim was made by Lere Olayinka, the media aide to Governor Ayo Fayose, via Twitter today, February 3, 2016.
“Court issued Warrant of Arrest against TKO ALUKO for Perjury. Police ordered to arrest him,” Olayinka wrote.
Aluko caused controversy on Sunday, January 31, when he admitted during a television interview that he had participated in the rigging of the June 2014 elections in the state and lied to a court about it while under oath.

Update on Bristol helicopter crash in Lagos

Following earlier reports of the helicopter crash today, Bristow helicopter has confirmed the helicopter coming from Port Harcourt to Lagos crashed into the Lagos lagoon, but with all the 11 occupants said to be safe.
Here is the statement below
“Bristow Helicopters (Nigeria) Limited, confirmed today that one of its helicopters, was involved in a water landing near Lagos at about 10.25 a.m. local time on return from an offshore platform.
“The aircraft, a Sikorsky S-76C++, had departed on a routine crew transfer flight offshore with nine passengers and a crew of two.
“All persons onboard are accounted for and in the process of being transferred to a nearby installation. The company is in the process of collecting pertinent information and will release more details as soon as it is available.”
Last August, another helicopter owned by the company similarly crashed into the Lagos lagoon, killing six out of 12 passengers.

FG orders arrest of ex-Customs boss

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been ordered by the federal government to arrest former Comptroller-General of Customs Abdullahi Inde DikkoDikko presided over the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) from 2009 to August 17, 2015, when he voluntarily resigned as the Comptroller-General of Customs.

According to Nigerian Tribune, the anti-graft agency has ordered its operatives to arrest the former Customs boss anywhere he was found.

EFCC operatives stormed Dikko’s residence at Jabi in Abuja, on Friday, January 8 and turned the house upside down looking for some incriminating documents over the on-going investigation of some petitions against him while in office.

A source said Dikko left the country after he voluntarily resigned as Comptroller-General of Customs in August last year, adding that he was yet to come back to the country.

Meanwhile, EFCC may seek extradition of the former comptroller-general of Nigeria Customs Service, from Dubai if he fails to honour its invitation.

A source close to the EFCC said that the failure of Dikko to honour the invitation may mean the use of extradition from the United Arab Emirates, where the former customs boss is suspected to be living since his retirement.

No subsidy was paid in January - Kachikwu
