No Senator Walked Out Of Plenary – Senators

Some senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on Thursday, November 12 debunked rumors that lawmakers walked out of the plenary when the deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu presided over the plenary for the first time.Speaking with newsmen, Danjuma La’ah representing Kaduna South senatorial district said that the executive session held during the plenary had nothing to do with Ekweremadu presiding over the plenary.

He added that the supposed staged walk out was a lie as people left for their own different reasons.
“Nobody walked out when Ekweremadu was presiding because he was carrying out his duty in the absence of the Senate president.
“He is the deputy and he has to do his job; yes the President later came and continued with proceedings but it was a different discussion all together.

“We were discussing on how all the senators would carry out their responsibilities for the good of all Nigerians.
“There was nothing wrong with the President continuing with the proceedings when he returned from another national assignment,” said La’ah.

Abu Ibrahim representing Katsina South senatorial district who was in agreement that the news was false said the deputy senate president being a member of the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party will continue to cause disputes among the lawmakers.
He also said that the position of the president and its deputy were always from the same party.
“With this kind of arrangement the conflict will continue even till the end of four years.
“It is an APC position and unless he cross-carpets to APC, it is easier for him to come to APC because you cannot be in PDP and be enjoying an APC position.

“He is my good friend, I am trying to convince him to cross over, I am inviting him,” he said.
On Wednesday, November 11 2015, Ekwerenmadu presided over the plenary because the Senate President, Bukola Saraki was at the Presidential Villa for the inauguration of the ministers appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
